Study of Rural-Urban Migration in Vietnam with Insights from China and Indonesia

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Rural-urban migration and urbanisation in Vietnam have accelerated following significant economic growth in the past decades. The rapid development of industrial zones has increased the demand for labour in the urban manufacturing and service sectors, and attracted millions of rural workers to move to cities to work. The large scale rural-urban migration process has fundamental consequences for both rural development and urban management. We propose to assist our counterpart organisation to conduct household surveys and employ rigorous, detailed survey analysis to examine the impact and challenges of the rural-urban migration in Vietnam aiming at helping academic and policy makers to improve the understanding of the patterns and impact of migration in Vietnam, provide basis for sound policy discussions and promote economic integration and reform.
