Support for Southern Corroboree Frog Captive Breeding and Release Program

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Our project will focus on two critical recovery objectives identified by the Corroboree Frog Recovery Team.1) This project will increase the production of eggs and juvenile frogs at two captive breeding facilities. Eggs and frogs are required to meet the reintroduction targets of the recovery program. This will permit the repopulation of frogs into newly rebuilt enclosures in their native habitat that were destroyed following the 2019/20 bushfires.2) This project will analyse genomic data for all the founder breeding stock and their captively-bred offspring for all captive Southern Corroboree Frogs. A long-term genetic management plan will be developed to inform strategic decisions for future captive breeding and release programs.
