Description
This project aims to create new sustainable plastic alternatives. The project will develop and rollout an innovativenew plastic designed and manufactured in Australia. The new plastic materials are designed with a circulareconomy in-mind, hence all feedstocks are sustainable (grown) or upcycled waste (spent coffee grounds) and thefinal plastic is compostable in home compost after use. This changes the way we live with plastics and reducestheir environmental impact. The team is experienced in advanced polymer chemistry and will look to develop theirplastic alternative into usable prototypes to develop a commercially viable replacement to expanded polystyrene -a largely single-use packaging material which persists in the environment for hundred years. Replacing this with asustainable, compostable foam would massively reduce the build-up of plastic waste and also reduce our relianceon fossil fuels for materials.
