    Project Details

    Description

The proposed project will review the taxonomy and evolutionary relationships among the Australian Tanypodinae (Diptera: Chironomidae) by integrating morphological and DNA sequence data in a phylogenetic framework. Existing collections will be reviewed and gaps in taxonomic and geographic coverage filled by fresh collections to ensure a comprehensive assessment of Australian diversity. Integration of morphological and molecular data, facilitated by knowledge transfer from a retired expert and international experts to the PI, will underpin revision of current species-level taxonomy and identification keys, and formal testing of morphological species concepts and biogeographical hypotheses.
