Terminal Anionic Magnesium and Calcium Hydride Complexes: Turning Environmental Pollutants into Fine Chemicals

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

In this work, we aim to combine the two green approaches to chemical synthesis discussed above; i.e. the activation of small molecules with the earth abundant, non-toxic metals of magnesium and calcium for an exciting new approach to sustainable chemical synthesis. This will be achieved by initial activation of the small molecules using a novel class of green organometallic reagent; terminal anionic magnesium and calcium hydride complexes. These green reagents have been calculated to feature some of the most polar metalH bonds reported to date.6 It is therefore expected that the complexes will show fascinating and previously unseen reactivity towards small molecules.
