Testing the hypothesis of synchronous inter-hemispheric climatic change during the Last Termination (20,000-10,000 years ago)

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The extent to which climatic changes associated with the termination of the last ice age were globally-synchronous is a contentious issue, with some evidence suggesting high latitude northern and southern hemispheric change operated in antiphase. Few paleoclimatic records, however, are available from the southwestern Pacific, despite the important role this region plays in global climate. Here we intend to undertake climatic reconstructions for the important role this region plays in global climate. Here we intend to undertake climatic reconstructions for the period 20,000 to 10,000 years ago obtained from four sites along a southwestern Pacific transect.
