The Atom Laser Facility

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

This atom laser facility will enable new experiments and extension of ongoing experiments in atom and quantum optics. The atom groups at the ANU, Melbourne and UNSW and the University of Queensland will use the facility for fundamental tests of quantum mechanics using matter wave interferometers and the non-interferometric phase imaging of matter waves. The Melbourne and ANU groups will also pursue applications on the construction of nanometre scale semiconductor electronic devices and on the detection of gravity gradients for mineral exploration. The atom laser is crucial to maintaining Australia's position at the forefront of the international atom optics community.
