    Description

OBJECTIVES: To obtain a good chronology of environmental changes recorded in a key deep-sea core offshore Sumatra. We wish to determine whether these change coincide with other regional and global events. We already have good proxies of environmental changes that occurred both at the sea surface and the bottom of Indian Ocean at the cored site but, at present, we rely on an oxygen-isotope chronology which requires a refinement before we can publish our data. AMS dating of some 15 samples of a single shallow-water foraminifer taxon will provide the necessary absolute chronology that will enable us to publish our findings.
