The practice of accountability in Australian Indigenous corporations

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

This study will evaluate how Indigenous corporations can be more accountable to their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and to government. Indigenous corporations are fundamental to the delivery of services and policy in Indigenous communities and are expected to play a role in Indigenous self-determination. However, their accountability practices have been criticised and a failure of accountability undermines the delivery of services and the achievement of policy objectives. The project is a unique partnership with the Registrar of Indigenous corporations and uses their data to select which Indigenous corporations to study. The findings will be relevant to Aboriginal policy, governance, politics and accountability.
