    Project Details

    Description

What was the role of the piano in the development of Australian culture? Using the piano as a musical, aesthetic, cultural, social and economic site of investigation, we aim to discover new perspectives on Australian musical life and on developments in Australian culture. We will seek to answer the question through investigation of case studies of instruments, people, and of musical composition/repertoire. This study of music in Australian society through the focus of the piano represents an exciting and innovative deepening of our understanding of Australians, their culture, and their connectedness to the wider world. The project's formal outcomes will include publications and performances.
