Project Details
Description
This qualitative research project examines the impact of economic development, the Internet, popular culture, and the media on sexual attitudes and behaviour among Thai men. It supports the Government s (AusAID) commitment to HIV/AIDS prevention in Asia by filling gaps in knowledge about Thai men s sexual cultures. The research expands the empirical base of West-centred studies of sexuality to Asia; injects new data into debates about cultural globalisation; and overcomes limitations in Foucauldian accounts of the history of sexuality. Building on past ARC research on Thai sexualities (Project A59602928), the project assembles an international team of experts on Thai sexual cultures to respond to an identified HIV emergency among Thai men.
