The social psychology of uncertainty: The roles of group membership and uncertainty orientation

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Uncertainty is a term that is used to describe many very different things in various scientific fields. Recent research in social psychology suggests our understanding of uncertainty can be improved by investigating the effects of group membership and orientation to uncertainty on the production, processing, and reduction of uncertainty. To take example of this: although disagreement with relevant others leads to increased uncertainty this may only apply for individuals who are motivated to confront uncertainty in their lives. The outcome of this research will be a revised typology of uncertainty that can be used widely in the social sciences.
