Project Details
Description
This project will complete a comparative study of the potential of Aboriginal knowledge and cultural production as an important component of regional economic futures and as an integral part of Australia's ongoing cultural heritage. The project will focus equally on art and craft production for sale and on developing Aboriginal cultural tourism. This project will examine developing enterprises in Aboriginal communities in Eastern Arnhem Land and in the Western Desert - the latter whose lands encompass the Canning Stock Route. We will provide a basis for quantifying the value of cultural production by taking into account social, economic and health indicators, and estimate the costs of maintaining the communities' cultural assets.
