Description
Australia leads the world in the study of bi and polymetallics spanned by pure linear carbon chains molecular wires. The replacement of one or more carbon atoms in these chains with main-group heteroatoms is the primary challenge of this proposal. This will not only allow unprecedented variability in the electronic conduction properties of derived materials; Departure from the constraints of linear geometries by employing three and four coordinate centres will provide access to new architectural motifs for well-defined molecular nano materials. In addition to being novel materials in their own right, the target compounds provide a fertile ground for subsequent manipulations of the potentially reactive C-Hetero atom functional groups.
