Trade policy: maximising benefits for nutrition, food security, human health, and the economy

Trade can be good for a nation's economic growth and social welfare. However, it has in some cases been detrimental to the nutrition, food security, health and social well-being of different social groups and countries. Little evidence exists to help policy makers and other stakeholders inform the development of trade policy that is inclusive of wider social and health goals. This project will provide evidence showing the impact on food security, nutrition and health arising from regional trade agreements and assess the governance capacities to deliver trade agreements that integrate economic, social and health goals. The focus will be on the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement, currently Australia's highest regional trade priority.
