Transport barriers in complex turbulent flows: formation, detection and characterization

The spreading of pollutants in the atmosphere, the dynamics of ozone holes, or the transport of heat across the Southern Ocean are affected by barriers to transport in chaotic flows. This project will model transport barriers in the laboratory and will develop methods for predicting their behaviour.
