Description
This proposal seeks to develop a uniquely combined theoretical and experimental approach to understand the link between microstructure and function in Ge-As-Se ternary glass systems with the aim of tuning the material structure of these glasses for maximal optical and acousto-optical device performance. Currently the practical limitation of these materials used in devices is limited by its stability which arises from the change of the bonding structure due to natural structural relaxation and exposure to the environment. We seek to understand the mechanisms underlying stability in these systems with an aim of producing materials of higher stability and superior properties.
