Understanding the role of trauma in alcohol and other drug-related problems

This project aims to analyse the relationship between trauma and alcohol and other drug-related problems,through a comprehensive set of linked qualitative and ethnographic methods. The project expects to generatenew knowledge about the role of trauma in AOD-related problems and implications for AOD consumers, policyand professional practice. Expected outcomes include recommendations to improve effective AOD responses,social policy and trauma-informed AOD care, and increased capacity of the Australian health workforce torespond to trauma and AOD-related problems. This should provide significant benefit by reducing the harms andeconomic and social costs associated with alcohol and other drug consumption.
