Description
In the past 10 years 3D X-ray microscopy (CT) has vastly improved our understanding of topics ranging from theevolution of life, osteoporosis, composite material failure to oil recovery. However, the full potential of CT remainsunrealised: crucial features in structure and in composition are overlooked by simplistic algorithms. Users cannotdirectly capture quantities of interest such as key compositional variation or defects, and workflows are poorlyadapted for largescale use in industrial fabrication or phenomics. Using advanced mathematics and algorithmsthis project builds on two new ideas in data acquisition and 3D image reconstruction. The target is to bring CT intoadvanced research use as well as common industrial applications.
