Water in the deep Earth

We propose to investigate how water is transported in minerals to deep Earth along subduction zones and we aim to establish an Australian facility to determine tiny amounts of water in deep Earth materials. This deep water cycle has profound influences on plate tectonics and on how much water is available at the Earth's surface.
