    Abstract

This paper reviews international developments in environmental reporting over the last decade and establishes the commonalities and differences in these practices. A general overview of global environmental reporting suggests that these practices were far from satisfactory. The reporting of environmental issues by organizations, primarily in corporate annual reports, seemed to be a public relations exercise designed to enhance the esteem of a corporation. Reasons for the current status of environmental reporting are investigated and suggestions for improving the status quo are formulated.
