    Abstract

The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) represented a multinational effort to securely access, monitor, catalog, transport, and distribute petabytes of data for climate change research experiments and observations. The international Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) was formed to increase the accessibility and usefulness of the large volume of CMIP5 climate data. Collaborating partners in the federation included LLNL and other national laboratories, along with international organizations such as DKRZ, the British Atmosphere Data Centre (BADC), and the University of Tokyo Center for Climate System Research.
