Abstract
Describes and validates a generalized heat balance model for sheep. The respiration index correlates with the proportion of a sheep flock that are actually at a shade site in a large arid zone paddock in Australia. The index may be used to predict under what environmental conditions sheep will go to a shade site, as well as their water usage in evaporative cooling. -from Authors
