A Historical Panorama

    Abstract

John Weavers The Great Land Rush and the Making of the Modern World sings across disciplines, defying categorization. In approach and emphasis, it is a history that is political, legal, economic, environmental, institutional, governmental, colonial, and imperial. So grand is it in scope and feel, the word encyclopedic fits well. Broad and ambitious, despite its mind-boggling breadth of research, it effectively brings together a great smorgasbord of information with incisive new analysis. Refreshingly, this sweeping narrative is crafted for the sake of good history rather than simply good bookshop sales.
