Abstract

Interference depends crucially on the number of spatial dimensions. In the propagation of waves according to the d'Alembert equation, this feature leads to the violation of Huygens' principle in even dimensions. In the propagation of a free Schrödinger wave, it gives rise to a "force" whose origin lies in interference. In this interference force, the difference between odd and even dimensions is not at all obvious. However, this distinction does manifest itself in integer versus half-integer angular momentum.
