    Abstract

The paper is focused on the CFD activity performed during the rebuilding phase of the test, executed in the CIRA “Scirocco” Plasma Wind Tunnel (PWT) in the frame of the ESA FLPP project. Aim of the test has been to validate the behaviour of a large thermal protection system assembly, the FLPP-SPS TPS Demonstrator built by Snecma Propulsion, Solide, under atmospheric re-entry conditions. During the test, surface temperature has been measured by infrared (IR) thermography and a dual-colour pyrometer, while back wall temperature has been recorded in eleven points of the test article by B-type thermocouples. The test has been rebuilt by means of a three-dimensional CFD simulation performed on the full test article configuration, having as requirements the values measured on the PWT calibration probe during the test.
