Abstract
The only mass murder of the twentieth century that has never been denied: 50 years ago, the Indonesian army and Islamic militia hunted the Communists in the land of the 17,000 islands. Within six months, from October 1965 to March 1966, one of the largest political mass murders of the 20th century took place in Indonesia. About half a million people fell victim to him - members and sympathizers of the Communist Party. It is true that there is controversy among experts as to whether political murders can be described as genocide at all. But the events in Indonesia are on a par with the Soviet cleansing, the Chinese cultural revolution and the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.
