Abstract
Based on Sarah Thomason's theories on language contact and language change, the author analyzes the Chinese Mandarin loanwords in a Cantonese Spoken corpus in which data are collected from recording transcripts of local Cantonese radio programs in Guangzhou. Some specific loanwords examples are discussed and some inferences about the change of Cantonese vocabulary around Guangzhou area are drawn from the analysis.
