Abstract
The Scottish historian, poet, teacher, and administrator, George Buchanan (1506-1582), earned a European reputation that is in part reflected in the many editions of his works published on the Continent. His Rerum Scoticarum Historia is an example: although it was first published in Edinburgh in 1582 by James VI's printer, Alexander Arbuthnet, the 1583 edition, despite the words "Edinburgh" and "Arbuthnet" on the title-page, was printed in Antwerp by G. van den Rade. In the four subsequent editions, of 1584, 1594, 1624, and 1638, the Continental contribution is not obscured: these imprints all state that they were published in Frankfurt.
