Abstract
Gallipoli tends to be seen by contemporary Australia, through a soft haze, as something to revel in, to glorify. This veneration has done three things. First, on the positive, it has given recognition to the service of men and some women during the First World War and out of that, more generally, recognition of service by our fellow citizens during the last 113 years since Federation
