Abstract

This paper describes the characteristics of flameholding of cavity in the supersonic combustor according to the inflow condition. The total enthalpies of air flow are 3.82, 4.48, 5.16, and 6.45 MJ/kg and the equivalence ratio is 0.13. As the result, the flame in the cavity does not generate as the total enthalpy decreases. This flame characteristics is analysed by the ignition delay time and cavity residence time which previous researcher suggested. Low total enthalpy increases the ignition delay time, therefore, the cavity depth is not sufficient to generate the flame at low total enthalpy. In this paper, the appropriate cavity depths and lengths are suggested according to the total enthalpy.
