Abstract
F 3πu←X3σg- (1,0) photoabsorption cross sections of 16O2 and 18O2 were reported. The cross sections were recorded in high resolution using a tunable, narrow-bandwidth vacuum-ultraviolet source based on third-harmonic generation from excimer-pumped dye-laser radiation. A large rotationless isotope effect was observed in the F(v = 1) predissociation. Spectroscopic parameters were determined for the F(v = 1) levels of 16O2 and 18O2 and the isotopic pattern of predissociation was explained with the aid of coupled-channel Schrödinger equation models.
