Abstract

The Plant Sensibilia Machine, an interactive public art installation, combines sensory engagement of plant dyeing with cultural storytelling, including poetry by Jacob Morris Gumea-Dharrawal Ngundah of the Yuin Murring. The outcome is a day long performance which produces a length of cloth on which Jacob Morris's poem becomes visible through the natural dyeing process using Cherry Ballard leaves.
This work was commissioned for Siteworks 2022: From a deep valley (Bundanon Trust) which draws on climate research, critical thinking, First Nations knowledge and technologies and creative digital spaces, throughout a major exhibition and a program of outdoor installations, performances, workshops, talks, and digital artworks.
