    Abstract

    This chapter outlines the constant, indiscriminate violence, that was undertaken by Imperial and colonial governments and their military across the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) throughout the 19th and into the 20th century. It focuses particularly on a 1916 expedition to Malakula Island, which included military from a range of nations, reined against tribal groups in NE Malakula. Oral traditions relating to the conflict are also included.
