    Abstract

    Australian World Rhythms Festival 2008 Sunday 20 April Thursday 24 April ANU School of Music Gary France, Artistic/Educational Director. The Australian World Rhythms Festival 2008 was a 5-day world drumming workshop and festival, featuring leading percussion performers and expert educators from around the world, including: KALANI (USA) Festival Drum Circle/Music Wellness, World Rhythms TUZA AFUTU (GHANA) West African Master Drummer RON REEVES (AUSTRALIA) South Indian/Sundanese specialist FABIAN HEVIA (CHILE) World Rhythms applied to drum set ALEX PERTOUT (CHILE) Afro/Cuban specialist GARY FRANCE (USA) World Rhythms & Music Technology JIM SHARROCK (AUSTRALIA) Community Drumming AMRIH WIDODO & SOEGITO HARDIODIKORO (INDONESIA) Javanese Gamelan Orchestra Over 125 participants ages 11 - 55 participated in this workshop and festival exploring the music of West Africa, India, Indonesia, Cuba and Brazil, as well as participating in Drum Circles, and performances as part of the celebrations in Civic and at Stage 88 Commonwealth Park for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Relay
