    Abstract

Insights from the behavioral sciences have rapidly gained prominence to accelerate urban climate action. Effectively, the behavioral sciences challenge the long-held assumption that humans are ‘rational’, ‘self-interested’, and ‘utility maximizing’. Rather, because of our in-built biases and heuristics, we humans often make decisions that are not in our best interest, let alone that of society at large. Lessons from behavioral science-informed governance for urban climate action that has proven to work may help to tackle other urban challenges too.
