Abstract
A cabal is a private meeting of a group of people, usually to conspire against someone or something, and normally carrying a sinister interpretation. Thus, intrigues against the monarch or the state are termed cabals. Sometimes the leaders of parties will denounce some faction or group as a cabal secretly conspiring against the leadership. The term carries far more negative connotations than do faction, coalition, or party.
