Abstract

Cambodia is a small nation in South East Asia that borders Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. During the last quarter of the twentieth century Cambodians suffered the greatest of all crimes: genocide, civil war, and foreign aggression. This legacy continues to have a profound effect on the criminal justice system. Following the first free and fair elections under United Nations supervision in 1993, Cambodia has been at peace since 1998 with the final demise of the Khmer Rouge (KR) insurgency.
