Capitalism Disrupted: Precarity and Struggle in a Southeast Asian Industrial Zone

    Abstract

Anthropological theorising of migration and labour relations have made important headways in recent years, ranging from ethnographies of labour migration infrastructure, intermediaries in migration, and migration-governances spatio-political significance (special economic zones, borders). Building on this body of work, David Campbells Capitalism Disrupted examines labour flexibilization in Mae-Sot, one of Thailands export-oriented border zones. The book interrogates the spatial production of precarious labour and Thailands economic dependence on migrants.
