Abstract
This paper argues that the law relating to voting rights at local government elections needs to be reformed in five of Australias six states. In Queensland, the only people eligible to vote at local government elections are those who are resident in the relevant area and who are eligible to vote at state and federal elections. But the situation is not so simple in the other five states, with voting rights based partly on anachronistic factors including property ownership
