    Abstract

    A class of coherent transients in a three-level system in the pump-probe configuration, where the time-dependent response of a probe field was studied in the presence of a strong pump field were analyzed. Time dependent probe response were studied for two different situations such as, a cw pump with a pulsed probe field and a pulsed pump with a cw probe. The calculations were described in the context of coherent transients in dressed-state and transient probe spectra of the Autler-Townes doublet. The main features observed include: dressed-state nutation, nutation by dynamic Stark switching, quantum beats between dressed states, and dressed-state spin locking.
