    Abstract

Our ongoing research project explores and analyses the attitudes of students in law school, students studying practical legal training, and early career commercial lawyers to the study and practice of commercial and corporate law. As practical legal training (PLT) educators and researchers one objective of our research is to learn from our collaboration with the legal community (two distinct student groupings and lawyers) through focus groups and interviews, with a view to teaching commercial practice from a more informed conscious perspective. Work life balance and wellness conspicuously emerged from some of the research participants as key considerations and focus for the participants either during their law studies or in their actual law career. In some cases, work life balance and wellness were linked to participant attitudes towards practising commercial and corporate law. From our qualitative research a range of distinctive narratives arose illustrating some motivators and considerations of the research participants around key career decisions.
