    Abstract

We compare complex potential and Lagrangian approaches to perturbed soliton evolution in systems described by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with various terms added to it. The physical effects induced by quite a number of factors can easily be ascertained. While the approaches mostly give similar relations, there are some differences between the results found.
