Abstract
This collection or articles, written on a range of genres and including work on both francophone and Arabophone novels and theatre, as well as popular culture in the form of hip hop music and the various forms of cultural patronage in contemporary Morocco, reflects the diversity and complexity of cultural production in the country. It is clear that many Moroccan cultural producers are firmly engaged in promoting social and political change in the country and therefore, providing a much-needed space of public debate on the future of the country. Even if the field of cultural production remains heavily dependent on state funding or private funding that is aligned with the state, some cultural producers use co-optation creatively to gain visibility and promote their own alternative vision of society.
