    Abstract

This study suggests an efficient method to generate spatial gap solitons, based on the mutual focusing of two interfering Gaussian beams in waveguide arrays. Wide and narrow, stationary and moving gap solitons can be generated, making it possible to explore the appearance of instabilities and discreteness-induced beam trapping.
