Abstract

The importance of innovation is widely recognized, however its analysis in the tourism
industry is difficult due to the small and medium-sized structure of the sector. Innovativeness
reflects a company’s tendency to engage in and support new ideas, novelty, experimentation,
and creative processes that may result in new products, services, or the like. This research
suggests that there are various factors which influence innovativeness of tourism companies
and aims to contribute to the debate on the concept of innovativeness in tourism. The paper
undertakes a review of the relevant literature and presents a quantitative study among former
winners or finalists of innovation awards in Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and
Australia to find out which factors stimulate innovativeness and innovative behaviour.
Authors aim to confirm the single influencing attributes according to literature by the gathered
data for both internal and external influencing factors on innovativeness.
