N2 - Streptococcus pyogenes, also known as group A streptococcus (GAS), is a human pathogen which infects people of all age groups. Previous work has reported that conformationally constrained chimeric peptide J8 protects against GAS challenge. In the current study, we demonstrate the utility of bioluminescent imaging as a rapid technique for monitoring bacterial dissemination following the passive transfer of rabbit anti-J8 antibodies to naïve mice and subsequent challenge with recombinant GAS strain M49, an emm type shown to be associated with poststreptococcal glomerular nephritis.
