Abstract

Definitions from graph theory relevant the nets of crystal chemistry are presented. The subject has developed spordically, with contribution from chemists, crystallographers and mathematicians often working in ignorance of each others contribution. The coordination number of a vertex is the number of edges incident on the vertex. In graph theory the coordination number is also called the 'valence' or 'degree'.
