    Abstract

    In mid 2014, Australia committed to assist in bolstering the Iraqi Armed Forces, a predominantly Shiite force, in their fight against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. By its Arabic acronym, ISIS is Daesh, which is suggestive of a derogatory term for the group. Unfortunately, part of the group's toxic appeal has been a millenarian conception of Daesh having brought the caliphate back into existence
