Abstract
Drawing on three vignettes developed as short-term ethnographies (Pink and Morgan 2013) with families in Tokyo, Shanghai and Melbourne in November 2013, this chapter outlines a framework for conceptualizing the mundane ways in which locative media are used. In all three locations, we conducted in-depth interviews involving scenarios of use and solicited a-day-in-your-life narratives from family members. As we illustrate, the comparison of three different cultural contexts enables an exploration of multiple configurations in the adoption of locative media-including the uneven development of locative media, their uses and their intergenerational uptake.
